An ode to Aunty Cath, the little blonde haired lady up the back of Bloch – she’s been fitting pointe shoes for the same company for 30 years this year, looking after the feet of thousands of not only dancers, but those dancers children, nieces, nephews and grandchildren. At 22, this full-time dancer had no idea what she was in for, a lifetime with one company – something that much of our generation will never experience.
She just retired and as much as she’s hiding it I know she’ll miss the place dearly; with 30 years of retail under her belt she’s definitely a force to be reckoned with. My time in retail is little in comparison, and I can’t even begin to comprehend what that amount of time with one company would bring – countless friends, customers, managers and stock passing through, to awards, to lunch breaks, to christmas trading hours, to christmas parties again and again each and every year.
I wonder how many times her service was recognised, no matter how small it may be in the grand scheme of things. On behalf of the countless dancers you’ve served, thanks mum, for always doing what you loved.
